The Delgado Calacas

About. Day-of-the-Dead calacas — skeleton mariachis with guitars — painted in electric color on the Delgado Guitars shop at 919 Gallatin Avenue.

History. Delgado Guitars is a real dynasty: the family has hand-built guitars since 1928, and their Nashville shop supplies players around the world. Artist Olasubomi Aka-Bashorun — born in Lagos, raised in Oklahoma — painted the calacas as a tribute to the shop’s Mexican craft heritage. Local secret: part of the artwork lives on the roll-up door, so it hides whenever the shop is open.
