Frankie Pierce Park

About. Yellow roses and a portrait of J. Frankie Pierce across the park’s long wall — ‘Optimistic, because we have faith.’

History. J. Frankie Pierce founded the Tennessee Vocational School for Colored Girls in 1923 and organized Black women’s votes in the suffrage fight; the yellow rose was the suffragists’ emblem. Her park sits where the Gulch’s rail yards once ran.
