The story of Capitol View

Capitol View is the newest neighborhood on this map — 32 acres of former rail-yard and industrial land north of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, rebuilt over the last decade around 11th Avenue North between George L. Davis Boulevard and the CSX tracks. Its builders put art in the plan: the block-long Capitol View Fence Gallery along Josephine Holloway Avenue (the old LifeWay Plaza) hands a painted retaining wall to a rotating roster of muralists, and Frankie Pierce Park — named for Juno Frankie Pierce, the Nashville educator who told the 1920 state suffrage convention that Black women were 'asking only one thing — a square deal' — hides a whole gallery in its rail underpasses, from Troy Duff's Color Portal to the painted headlines of Suffrage Wins. Start at the Welcome to Capitol View bridge, walk the park, and finish along the fence.
