12South follows the old streetcar line that carried Nashvillians down 12th Avenue to Sevier Park a century ago. The bungalows stayed working-class until the 1990s, when a wave of restoration — and the 1998 tornado's forced rebuild — turned the strip into the city's favorite walking street. Reese Witherspoon planted her Draper James flagship here in 2015, the boutiques followed, and the murals came with them: today a single mile holds the striped wall, Make Music Not War, Molly Green's wildflowers and a whole herd of painted cowgirls. It is the easiest art crawl in Nashville — one street, no car, ice cream at the end.
