Germantown
Nashville's oldest neighborhood, freshly painted
The story of Germantown
Germantown was platted in the 1850s by German immigrant butchers and merchants — the brick Victorians and worker cottages still line its grid, now filled with some of the city's best restaurants. The neighborhood borders the Nashville Farmers' Market, trading on this spot since the early 1800s, and Bicentennial Capitol Mall with its Tennessee history in granite. Its industrial edges have become canvases: legal walls and underpass columns rotate fresh spray-paint year-round, so no two visits look alike.
